Just Intonated And Microtonal Slowcore Techno

How many different tones are there within one octave? 12? C C# D D# E F F# G G# A A# B?
Wrong! There is an infinite amount of different pitches, and therefore notes, tones, and intervals within one octave.
It was only around the turn of the 20th Century that, in the western world, the sonic landscape was reduced to using the 12 different notes that are now so commonplace in western songs - the "Twelve Tone Equal Temperament" (12 TET) tuning was born.
Composers like Beethoven, Bach and Mozart still used vastly different tuning systems and pitches than those that are in use now.
Also, of course, music outside the western world employs tuning systems that are not within the twelve tone system.

But in the 20th century, there were many composers that rebelled against this very extreme reduction of "legitimate" tonality which became enforced in the west.
Thus the Just Intonation and Microtonal movements were born.
Composers began to use pitches that were outside the 12 TET, often using "pure" intervals (in the 12 TET tuning, only the unison and octave are pure, and the perfect fifth and perfect fourth are "somewhat" pure - all other intervals are not) - this approach is called "Just Intonation" - or using intervals that lie between the 12 TET pitches and are (often far) smaller than a half step - this approach is called Microtuning.

For the most part of the 20th century, these forms of music were often restricted to the academic circuit, or amongst hobby producers, so it is still rare to see these approaches used within electronic music at large or Techno music in specific. And it is virtually nonexistent within harder forms of Techno.

This release by Time Kanzler Green tries to change this a bit, by providing six Slowcore Techno tracks, all employing "Xenharmonic" sounds, i.e. they use tuning systems and intervals that are outside the normal western 12-tone equal temperament.

Stylistically, apart from being Slowcore, the tracks also draw influence from Industrial Hardcore, Gabber, Doomcore, Berlin School and Dark Ambient music. 64-120 BPM.

So, if this adventure towards music outside the normal western system of sounds interests you, consider having a listen to this release.

At Wrong Speed

A while ago a DJ asked me if I had tracks of mine available at certain speeds, that he needed for a mix of his own.
I didn't. So the idea arose in my mind to re-create and re-record some classic tracks by me, to fit those BPM requirements.
The mix was made and got publicized, and we liked it.

Now these tracks are lying around on my HD, and the thought crossed my mind, why not put them on Bandcamp?
I think they're interesting for the following reason:
While some of them are just suspect to slight changes in speed and tempo, others got changed quite drastically, and a whole new impression, substance, impact of the track was the result.
And, let's face it, it's been awhile since I made some mid-tempo tracks.
Also a good time to put some classic tracks into the open once more.
And a great tool for a DJ who seeks tracks in a specific speed.

Varied styles are in here, from Techno and Doomcore to Acidcore and Industrial Hardcore.

Sunlight Bar Lover

A massive release from France is here!
Slowcore Records is the label for all slower Techno and Hardcore styles. While, for example, the Low Entropy releases showcase slower Doomcore, or other releases also showcase slower Industrial Hardcore, this release is about a more experimental approach to slow and hard electronic music.
Low tempo Hardcore meets influences of Dub, French (instrumental) Hip Hop, Noize, and a heavy dose of old and new Tekno and Free Party elements.
So, if you are bold enough to hear something new in Slowcore, take a look at this release!

Wasteland Winds

To be honest; we listen to a lot of music; and we listen to a lot of Hardcore and Doomcore. And it's rare that something still surprises us. But this release did; this is really something else!
A master of Doomcore joins efforts with a master of Industrial Hardcore. And the result is killer combination, a new sound that feels like it is so much ahead. Conveying powerful emotions and spirit.
Definitely a step forward in the evolution of Dark and Hard music.
But listen to and hear it for yourself!

Clakbastard

Doomcore Records Pod Cast 019 - Clakbastard - Rave 14 015 0 (When The 90's Meet The Future)

Clakbastard from Brest on the Doomcore Records Pod Cast.
A fierce and brutal Doomcore, Psycho Rave and Industrial Hardcore mix. Competently executed, qualified mixing, solid set structure.
Notable here is that, as the title suggests, the Pod Cast combines total Doomcore and sombre Techno classics (from the 90's) with newer, contemporary sounds.
And the other thread that very visibly runs through the set is the nihilist, bleak atmosphere, celebrating the brilliance of cold and nasty rhythmic electronic music.
Dancing in the (g)raveyard.

Tracklisting:

01. Fifth Era - Let The Day Perish
02. Demoiselle Douce Innocence - Moonbreaker
03. ParallX feat Magnolia - RedClouds
04. KAS ST - Hell on Earth
05. Emmanuel Top - Climax
06. Dj Arne II & Mirko Milano - Lucutus
07. Dance or Die - Too Much DMT
08. Sexy Sushi - Je Refuse de Travailler (Frãulein Warrior Version)

Dreams Revisited

Omnicore Records 06

In Low Entropy's own words:

"The 'Dreams' album, released in 2013, was to me one of the most important releases I ever did. Not because it went big or had a lot of success, which it had not, but for more personal reasons.
I did it in a time I was very nihilist and pushed a bleak worldview, but I longed for more. So I did this release, in which I tried to go total with this nihilism, but also trying to reach idealism and truth at the same time.
So on one hand i wanted to erase everything I associated with music production and its rules; the tracks were all extremely lo-fi, no EQ, hardly any reverb or processing, hard clipping; absolute reduction of elements, sometimes just synths and a drum in the instrumental section.
But on the other hand, there was the 'idealist' longing, and this went into the production of the tracks too; I wanted to evoke dreams, ideal, otherwordly feeling with the choice of sounds and melodies; but most importantly, with the lyrics to the tracks.

So we have "We are the dreamers of dreams" which was based on a 19th century poem.
"Freaks United", a tale of the power of freaks and outcasts and a hymn celebrating those who dare to be different to the social norm.
"Global Riots", as a counterpoint to the more positive songs, with its talk about a global societal collapse; but an *ideal*, imagined counterpoint.
"Henrys", well, it's a long story, maybe I tell it another day.
"Let Us Change The World", a call for change, still more emotional then intellectual, but already with a definitive focus.
"Androgynous Girl", well, as the name says, a song celebrating those that are more on the androgynous spectrum.
And finally "Speech", contrary to its title, more a hypnotic recitation of mantras that tries to feed your mind.

But, overall, the main theme of the whole release is, as the name says, "Dreams". About dreamers, the world of dreams, visonaries, fantasies, imagination - and the underlying power of all of this.

So the release went out; and it changed my whole trajectory of doing music.
I quickly left the minimalism and nihlism behind, and instead of reduced lo-fi tracks began making complex and complicated productions again. And I discovered the philosophy of idealism and tried to incorporate it into my sound.

Over the years, the thought came to me to revisit these tracks; and turn these demo-like, fragmented sounds into fully fleshed tracks with better production values.

And I finally did! The result is here: "Dreams Revisited"

It was fun to work on these tracks again, and I put a lot of thoughts and energy into these productions, more than usually, and I'm really happy with the results.
On the stylistical level, a lof ot stuff is going on here:

Cosmic Ambient, Industrial Slowcore, Oldschool Speedcore, Spoken Word, New Wave Ravecore, Erotic Acid EBM, Krautrock, just to name a few aspects of it.

Aswell as the normal tracks, I also added instrumental versions of most the tracks.

So, after all this is said, I hope you enjoy this conceptual album a bit, too!
"Dreams Revisited", for real!

The Slowcore Compilation Part 2

Last year's The Slowcore Compilation on Doomcore Records was a huge success; in fact, it quickly became the most succesful release on the label!
While the Slowcore genre seemingly bubbled under the surface for many years, with this release, the word finally went out, and the Slowcore message spread quickly. People finally started to talk about Slowcore, and take the genre seriously.
A lot of artists began producing Slowcore themselves in the wake of the compilation.
And an effect on the Doomcore Records label itself was the formation of the first (sub)label solely dedicated to the Slowcore sound itself: Slowcore Records.

So it was obvious we had to do a follow-up this year; and here it is.

The Slowcore Compilation Part 2

Once again, the sound on this compilation is very varied; influences from Industrial Hardcore, Doomcore, Gabber, Techno, Dub, Noize, Oldschool, weird sound experiments... should really be something for everyone!
Both big name artists aswell as interesting newcomers are here.
And we think the release really shows the power of Slowcore: hard-as-nails drums, darkest atmospheres, hypnotic rhythms. All at slow speed. Showing the infinite possibilities of low tempo electronic music.
We were especially suprised how heavy and brutal a lot of the sounds were for this year's compilation. Definitely for the headstrong! But there are also calm and soothing moments.
In our opinion, Part 2 is even a step up from the first compilation!
25 tracks in total. Over 2 hours of music.

We once more hope that people enjoy this release, and that it might help to push the Slowcore idea a bit more into the worldwide music scene!

Huge thanks go out to all artists involved in this compilation!

Oh, in case, while reading this, you wondered all the time what kind of genre Slowcore actually is, you can find more information here: https://lowentropyproducer.blogspot.com/p/slowcore-records.html
