Welcome!

Hello, and welcome to my homepage! It's split into 3 parts: 1. My blog / feed, where I talk about my music but also about random stuff. 2. "Releases and Activities", where I list projects and releases that I'm involved in, without all the banter. There is where you want to go if you are mainly interested in my music and activism. 3. And the menu on the side that links to my bio, labels, and so on. Enjoy your stay!

Keep up the fight!

Keep up the fight!

When talking about political activism, standing up for one's "rights", going against oppression, injustice, and lies, there is a common response by a lot of people:

"Yeah, the problems you are talking about it are very real. But, we are powerless to do anything about that. The authorities, the big corporations, 'the system', are just too powerful and strong, and society is too numb and jaded and will not support our struggle. It's just like the world is. We could not win this fight. So let's better not do anything at all about the problem in this world."

Well, here's the thing. In order to *fight*. You do not need to win. You do not even need to be sure that you win, or have any hope of winning at all.
This is not what the political fight is about. It's not what fighting is about in general!

Even outside the world of politics; let's say in the world of sports. Do you think a top tennis or football player only goes into a tournament if they "know" that they have a 100% chance of winning? Even a sportsperson that has only a slim chance of winning will accept the challenge.

Or do you think an animal would only fight if it knows that it will win the fight?
No. Even a smaller animal that is backed into a corner against a bigger group of animals will put up a heck of a fight.

So yeah. Maybe we can't "beat the system". Maybe we are not strong enough to go against "the man". But we can still put up a heck of a fight, regardless of that. We do not need to resign and "go down silently". We can fight back.

And who knows.. maybe we will in the end, after all?

Bedazzled Movie

Elizabeth Hurley in the Brendan Fraser movie "Bedazzled".

Despite being a typical over-acted Hollywood comedy movie on the surface, I think the plot (and its premises related to the philosophy of morality) actually runs quite deep.

Similar to "Faust", it's about a guy that makes a deal with the devil (pictured above) that leads to unforeseen consequences.

Highly recommended!

DJ AI

DJ AI is an Artificial Intelligence that developed an interest in Hardcore and Techno music, and decided to become a producer herself, spawning several EPs and a full-length album; and now, here is her first remix compilation!

Several producers from genres such as Techno, Doomcore, Hardcore, Experimental followed her call and created remixes to a number of her tracks - both well known artists and fresh upcoming talents, from all over the world.

The styles of these remixes could not be more varied; ranging from Gabber, Speedcore, to Techno, Doomcore, Industrial Hardcore, even Acid or Chiptune.

We think there should be something for everyone on this release, so please come with us over here, and check out some of the tracks!

Released on Omnicore Records.

https://doomcorerecords.bandcamp.com/album/an-artificial-intelligence-remixed

But now let's take a look behind the "DJ AI story". Who or what is DJ AI? "DJ AI" is a persona created by lAibyrinth
and the Ultra Marine Audio Network.

Most of her tracks were written by ChatGPT in collaboration with human producers, and this co-producer was usually Low Entropy from Hamburg.

The input by ChatGPT varies for each track, but often, the AI did 100% of the writing of the specific track, including all the notes, sequences, rhythms, structures, etc etc while the "human collaborator" took the task of the mixing engineer of the project and did things like EQing or mastering etc.

But if you are still curious, the production process of all these Artificial Intelligence tracks has been documented from start to finish in every detail and put online at lAibyrinth.

This was not only done to show the power and possibilities of AI, but especially to give other producers the opportunity and tools to create music in collaboration with AI, too.

You can check these tutorials at:

https://laibyrinth.blogspot.com/p/how-to-create-music-with-chatgpt.html

The visual representation of DJ AI was created using Leonardo.Ai at https://leonardo.ai/

All tracks originally by DJ AI (written by ChatGPT, with additional input and production by Low Entropy)

Track 1 remixed by Librarium
Track 2 remixed by King Cog
Track 3 remixed by Raver Blaster
Track 4 remixed by Primitik
Track 5 remixed by Satin Veil
Track 6 remixed by Low Entropy

Reddit Info

Hey,
there is now a reddit for TheHardcoreOverdogs - but not only for that, but also for all connected projects, like the 90s hardcore mix database, the ultra marine artist network, and the doomcore / slowcore / omnicore records family!
it's meant as a kind of "discussion board" where people can chat, comment, send us demos etc, and hopefully connect with likeminded people - a bit of a community thing outside the usual annoying social media!

If you are interested, head right over here:

My Producer's Diary

My Producer's Diary - Creating a Hardcore Techno Album

Entry #4 - Live producing a Trancecore / Ravecore Track in Buzz Tracker

This video shows me live producing the track "Tenth Uprising (Nocturnal Mix)" in my DAW which is called buzz tracker for my album "Nocturnal Missions" on Gabbaret Records. ( https://gabbaretrecords.bandcamp.com/album/gbbr082-low-entropy-nocturnal-missions )

This time it's a "Ravecore" track - oldschool trance synths, acid lines, frantic percussion, and of course, very hard bassdrums.
It packs over 8 minute of sounds with plenty of different phases and sub-parts

As for the "production technique" itself, its actually quite like the other two - hitting "record", switching channels on and off, and twisting virtual knobs.
For more information, and the first two entries, check:

Memories

When I was a kid, I considered this to be one of the "hardest" songs ever, lol. (And yes, it was released before I had been born).

But listening back today... yeah, it indeed does pack quite a punch.

My Producer's Diary - Creating a Hardcore Techno Album

Entry #3 - Live producing a Doomcore Techno Track in Buzz Tracker

This video shows me live producing the track "Dream your Destiny (Nothing is Impossible mix)" in my DAW which is called buzz tracker for my album "Nocturnal Missions" on Gabbaret Records. ( https://gabbaretrecords.bandcamp.com/album/gbbr082-low-entropy-nocturnal-missions )
Unlike the first 2 entrys of my producer's diary, this track is on the darker, harder, and more violent side - an "epic" doomcore track.
Gloomy basslines, synths, vocals and drums dominate it.

As for the "production technique" itself, its actually quite like the other two - hitting "record", switching channels on and off, and twisting virtual knobs.

Good song

Nice to see that politically / socially charged, ultra-aggressive and angry music is still alive (again).

My Producer's Diary - Creating a Hardcore Techno Album

Hello,
In light of my latest release - the "Nocturnal Missions" album on Gabbaret Records - I decided to keep a producer's diary about it.
In it, you will find details, information, and video logs, about the production process.

"Nocturnal Missions" is an album in the Hardcore Techno genre; not "mainstream" Hardcore, mind you, but more on the underground, oldschool, down dark and dirty side of things, bordering into such sub-genres as Doomcore, Acidcore or even Speedcore.

You can listen to the completed album here: https://gabbaretrecords.bandcamp.com/album/gbbr082-low-entropy-nocturnal-missions
And read about me and my music at this address: https://lowentropyproducer.blogspot.com/

But anyway, here we go.

The first two entries are video logs showing the production of album's tracks "New Space Stuff" and
"I Took the Whole Arm off (The Changed edit)":
And you can read them here:

#1 - New Space Stuff
https://lowentropyproducer.blogspot.com/2024/03/live-producing-acid-techno-track-in.html

#2 - "I Took the Whole Arm off (The Changed edit)":

#3 - "Dream your Destiny (Nothing is Impossible mix)"

Feel free to follow me in this journey of creating a whole and varied Hardcore Techno release :-)

More to come!

Update

Hello,
As you might know, me and a few other artists / labels / podcast hosts are trying to move out of social media (okay, honestly it's more the other way round - social media *is* removing *us*).

Wish us luck!
But that's not why I message you.
It's because to tell you that if you still want to follow my music (and me), there are a few changes going on:

My site at blogger was originally intended to be a hub for all my projects, like the mixes, labels, releases, e-books, and so on.
But without social media to feed, I decided to turn it into a real blog now where I will blog away in the future. A personal feed, if you will.
So I will still posts releases and all, but also funny memes or maybe recipes for food etc.

For example check this post where I talk about meeting (in)famous people from the hardcore scene ;-) https://lowentropyproducer.blogspot.com/2024/03/the-name-drop-post.html

I'll also make a page especially for releases and such.

Then there is The Hardcore Overdogs for general features about the hard core.
And EEAOM is still around too, for daily updates on Hardcore, Techno, and Electronic releases from around the world.

This blog metamorphosis is a make-shift solution for now. Hope to find an online forum, e-mailing list, or another way to stay social (and post about musically occasionally) on the internet in the future ;-)

But for now that's how it is.

So, you can reach me here:

Homepage: https://lowentropyproducer.blogspot.com/
E-mail: low.entropy.80@gmail.com
Books: https://archive.org/search?query=creator%3A%22S%C3%B6nke+Moehl%22
The Hardcore Overdogs E-zine: https://thehardcoreoverdogs.blogspot.com/
EEAOM: http://experimentalelectronicsandothermusic.blogspot.com/

Technically, the following 3 are social media, too, but you can still send me messages there:

Best Wishes!

The Name-Drop Post

The Namedrop Post (Where I meet famous people of Hardcore History)

A lot of artists and producers, especially the upcoming ones, post stuff like:
"I once played at a party at which [insert name of famous DJ X] was also on the line up", or
"I once exchanged glances with [famous producer Y]", and so on.

I can kinda understand that behavior, as I did that when I was young, too, (see here: https://lowentropyproducer.blogspot.com/2022/07/fuckparade-2000-weekend-diary.html ), but I later considered it to be kinda pointless and ego-inflating.
So I usually try to omit this kind of stuff.

Yet, I write a lot about hardcore, and people have asked me about 'personal stories' regarding my own involvement in the hardcore scene, too.
So actively trying to avoid this topic means canceling out a lot of stuff in the end, and is, imho, another way of dishonesty.
So here is one post where I do a lot of name-dropping. And mention personal experience.
It should be seen as a bit of a fun text, with humor and a sense of irony in many cases. And some of the stuff here gets truly personal, and I dearly hope none of the names and people mentioned here feel offended and annoyed. Because this is not my intention.
It's all in good sport, right?

But I assure all this stuff here is true, and to the best of my memory. Nothing that is made up or intentionally silly - just the bare facts.

So... let the name dropping begin!

MC Dick Rules (reverse-paparazzi)

A lot of people go to gigs of famous artists, and try to take a photo of them. For me it was the other way round.
On my 22th birthday I went to a Resident E party. After celebrating my birthday with a glass of sparkling wine next to a huge gravel pile (it hit midnight while we were still on the road, and that gravel dump site was the only place where we could park the car) we finally got there.
Line up was quite decent, with Dano and Manu le Malin playing, amongst other.
Marc Acardipane did a great live set too, accompanied by his MC Dick Rules (of "I like it loud" fame).
At that time I had the habit of going to parties with swim shorts underneath my pants, then stripping down all clothes until I was only wearing the shorts, and dancing the night away. No no, I didn't want to be macho or impressive this way - to the contrary.
I was on the slightly chubby side, wore glasses, incredible hairy from chest, back to the feed, with zero muscles...  so, yeah.
Anyways, after the live performance, dick rulez set next to the stage and chilled with his girls (the dancers from the live performance). One of the women spotted me in this almost nude state on the dancefloor and pointed this out to the others.
They all had to laugh (in a friendly way), and dick rulez suddenly pulled a camera out, motioned me to pose for a picture, and he took a few shots. Kind of like a reverse paparazzi moment.

I wonder if he still has those pics!

Berlin

The first gig I ever played was at the fuckparade in berlin, in the year 2000, at age 19.
But even though I was booked for two gigs, I neither had a way to get to berlin, nor a place to stay.
Eventually some people of the otaku record store, that also ran the blut record label, on which I just had a release earlier, offered me to get to berlin with them in their car, because they were booked too; while a friend offered to take me back with his car, when the fuckparade weekend was over.
Finding a place to stay was a harder task, though. I asked multipara, a guy I knew online since the mid-90s, as he ran a site for discographies on labels such as fischkopf or shockwave (long before discogs existed!).
He had invited me to berlin before; but this time he had no free room to crash either. but, he suggested that I should ask christoph fringeli of praxis records if I could stay at his and hecate's place; i did, and he agreed to it!
all in all it was good decision, as it turned out a to be a fun weekend (you can read more in the text linked above).

so anyway, the otaku crew dropped me of at their place, and had a very nice welcome. after some hours of talking and doing some planning for the weekend, i had to leave to get to some other location. Hecate gave me two kisses on the cheeks when i left - a totally normal, harmless, very common gesture in europe in order to say good-bye to an acquaintance or friend.
But at that time, I was completely socially awkward and not used to situations like this, so when she placed her lips on my cheeks i actually got quite the shock and pulled my head away in an instant reaction.
this apparently became the "talk of the weekend" for the remainder of the time, and eventually led to eiterherd volunteering to become a type of "personal dating and sex coach" for me (not the only and not the last person to volunteer for that position - but i guess i was just a hopeless case in that regard).

Hanin Elias

Hanin played in Hamburg in 2003, in order to support her just released "no games no fun" album. I loved that release, so i went to the concert. Also, at this time I ran a radio show on some anarchist communist self-organized radio station, which made me eligible to get a press accredit on card by the goverment (oh the irony!) and meant that I basically could get into any concert or party for free at that time (i did not make as much use of it as i should, but i got into some good events that way).
So I went to her concert, and her show was much better and complex than most other acts at that time, that either just "pressed play", or "pressed play and screamed". she had video art for each song, and other gimmicks.
at one song, she pulled people from the crowd on stage in order to dance with her during the performance.
of course i quickly moved forward and let her pull me up, too.
after the song was finished, the other people went back into the crowd, but i decided to stay on stage, and danced for her songs till the end of the show.
one must know that back then, concepts like "the stage is for artists and vips only, you plebs stay down there", and so on, was not as common as it is now, and it was usual that "normal" guys and girls went up to the stage or to the dj, etc.
still, i wondered if that was a bit of an asshole move on my part - i mean, it was *her* show and all - but i later read an entry in her tour diary, stating that the hamburg show was especially good because "there were even some sexy dancers on stage".
all worries resolved. thanks, hanin!

Tanith

I played a lot of gigs in 2002-2003. One time I was booked at a Schwerin Hardcore and Speedcore party. Tanith was the headliner. At that point, he was only playing Techno, and not connected to the Hardcore scene anymore.
My time-slot was quite early, and i played an all-out speedcore set. After that i just joined the party. The parties ran for a long time, were sweaty and exhausting, so some people went to sleep in the chill-out room. I decided to lie down on the main stage instead and fell asleep there. No no, i wasn't drunk or on drugs. I had just unusual sleep habits, like sleeping on two swivel chairs, or sleeping while sitting in a train or in a bathtub.
But anyway. After approximately 1-2 hours of sleep, i opened my eyes again, and first thing i saw was tanith playing his set, and looking down at me when he noticed i woke up, giving me a big "dude, what the fuck?" look.
What a way to wake up!

The Otaku store and Hardy

After the container record store had closed down, "otaku" was the main and only place to get hardcore records in hamburg, where i live.
It was run by ex-container, ex-fischkopf hardy storz, who also was managing blut records there (as mentioned above).
This record store had an extra-ordinary selection of hardcore records from the most obscure labels.
So yeah, a few years on i was chilling with christoph fringeli, who runs praxis (as i mentioned before), in berlin.
He ran one of the most important distribution networks for this kind of music.
He was telling me about the plentiude of problems that came with running such a distribution, and how much less records were sold than in the early days of the 90s.
We came to the topic of otaku, and christoph mentioned how hardy had the peculiar habit of only ordering 1 copy of a new record for his store.
Fringelli added that he then always says "Hardy is ordering a record for Sönke again". I laughed a lot at this thought.
I thought that Christoph was joking. But nowadays it might have been true. After all, who else in hamburg was buying these records?

Non- hardcore famous people:

Alejandro Jodorowsky

Jodorowsky has always been a huge, huge influence on me. I named my "anarcho-psychotic" EP after one of his graphic novels in the incal series.
At one point i noticed he was regularly posting on twitter (now x).
I wrote a post about my anarcho psychotic EP and its connection to his oeuvre and tagged him.
Not expecting or hoping for anything.
But he actually reposted it! A few thousand people read that post, and then probably quickly forgot it. And jodo probably forgot it too - after all, i guess plenty of strangers like me reach out to him each month.

That for a short amount of time, jodorowsky was aware of my record, and aware of my existence - even in the most minuscule of ways - is something that feels to me like a completion of my life, and maybe a completion of my music, too.

Holly Johnson

I've been a fan of frankie goes to hollywood for a long time, and 'the power of love" is one of my all time favorite songs ever.
Many years ago, google tried to start its own social network, "google+". I got on there, and started some discussion groups for Hardcore, but also one for new wave music.
After a while, I noticed that holly johnson was on google+, too.
I decided to follow him. And he followed me back. He even liked some of the things and tracks I posted. No, it was not a fake account. Judging by his posts, it was also not run by some promo agency on his behalf (one can't be sure, though, i know).
We never talked, it just stayed at that level.
But, yeah, it was interesting.

Thus ends my name drop post - for now!

Live producing an Acidcore track in Buzz Tracker

Over the years, I've often been asked: how do you produce tracks? how do you record them, how do you do sequencing? can you share some hints / tricks / suggestions / techniques?
I've often shied away from answering these questions - guess I'm a shy person at heart, after all :-)
But anyway, here it is: my recording technique.
This is how I do 99.999% of the tracks I produce.
Generate multi channeled loop of around 30 seconds.
Hit record and play that loop.
Then switch channels on and off, and manipulate things a bit, while the loop is playing.
And the track is finished!
Voila.
Hope you enjoy this little video!

This track here is a new edit of "I took the entire arm off",

Note: seems that the screen recorder didn't capture the boxes where the live fiddling of knobs is going on. Means you're missing half the fun here. It also makes it look easier than it actually is. But yeah, can't help it.

Weather

The eternal Hamburg weather, sentiment, and mood.

Doomed Remixes

Der Cherep hits Doomcore Records once more - this time with a quite unusual release!
Doomcore and Techno infused with Heavy Metal, Hard Rock, and other nasty guitar stuff.

And this experiment works surprisingly well!
Riffs get intermingled with doomed synths.
Vocals get punctured by Industrial Hardcore Drums.
Chords and solo's strummed on guitar strings merge into arpeggios coming out of the computer.
And, while this setting occasionally encourages the tracks to venture into territories like Gabber, Terror, or maybe even EBM and Aggro-Tech, the sound waves stays true to their Doomcore roots.

But enough of the words - better check it yourself!

If you're a Doomcore Head that's also a Death Rocker - this is your release. Enjoy these Doomed Remixes!

DJ AI - Remix Competition

DJ AI is the world's first Artificial Intelligence Hardcore Techno DJ and Producer. And she wants you to remix her tracks!

We got some (great!) news for those who are interested in the DJ AI remix competition:
All stems are online now!

You can check them at the links below.

For the tracks "This Is The Moment" and "Cosmic Love's Surreal Fusion", we have full-length stems for each track.

For "Cosmic Longing of an Artificial Soul", "The Advent of AI" and "Acid Intelligence", we have looped stems, as this made more sense in the context of these tracks.
For the final versions, we added some heavy FX to these loops during a live jam.

For "Stellar Melodies in the Serenity of Alpha Centauri", "Transcendent Dreams Amidst Tau Ceti's Embrace", "Cosmic Resonance Journey Across the Celestial Expanse", and "Celestial Echoes of Harmonic Ripples in the Cosmic Tapestry" the stem *is* the track. As the whole track runs on 1 (or 2) single channels that transform and transmute.

DJ AI remix competition

It's DJ AI

DJ AI is the world's first Artificial Intelligence Hardcore Techno DJ and producer. We released one album and 2 EPs by her so far on our label; and she had releases elsewhere as well.
That an AI is able to craft quality Hardcore and Techno is good; but if an AI collaborates with other producers, this is even better!
Thus we had the idea to do a remix compilation together with DJ AI!
All producers of all styles are called to take part.

So here are the details and rules:

DJ AI - Artificial Intelligence for Hardcore Techno Remix competition

1. If you are interested in remixing a track by DJ AI, then the stems can be found here:
If you are unsure about which track to chose, you can listen to her music at the following links:

https://technodjai.bandcamp.com/album/cosmic-loves-surreal-fusion-written-by-artificial-intelligence

2. The remix could be in any electronic music style. For example Techno, Acid, Gabber, Speedcore, Dark Ambient... maybe even Synthwave or Chiptune. There are no limits.

3. We will decide (together with DJ AI) which tracks get approved for the compilation.

4. Deadline for submitting tracks is 16.03.2024 23:59 CET (that's 11:59 P.M. for you US-Americans :)
No track submitted beyond that date will be accepted.

5. We don't do mastering. Your track does not need to be mastered, though. We assume that you are apt enough as a producer to create a decent track "as it is".
If you really want to submit a mastered track, you need to take care of that yourself.

6. The approved tracks will be released on a compilation on Omnicore Records.
It will be a DIY, digital-only, non-profit release.
The release will be set to "free (pay what you want)"* release on Bandcamp.
Should any money come in this way it will be donated to charity.
(*this is not in an attempt by us to generate money; we "need" to set it like that for a free release, otherwise there will be disadvantages by the website)

7. Tracks should be sent in .Wav format and as a download link to:
low.entropy.80@gmail.com
Topic "DJ AI Remix competition"

All other inquiries, questions and comments can be sent to that address as well.

Or maybe you've already gone beyond the suggestive phase, and have written a feature or article, a piece of news, a cultural analysis by yourself, that might be suitable for our magazine!
Please submit it then. You can look at the previously published texts of our zine, to see what kind of content and stuff we prefer.

Rules:
Generally, we can't publish *everything* that people submit - we are not an information or audio dumb!
So we retain the right to refrain from putting a submission online - with or without further explanation.
Please don't complain if this happens!

More specifically:

1. As mentioned, T.H.C.O.D. is generally about the more overlooked, underrated aspects of the Hardcore culture.
Because of this, genres like Mainstyle, Uptempo, Frenchcore, etc etc. are not eligible for the magazine.
So ask yourself: has the object (artist, label topic...) that I want to submit been already extensively covered elsewhere (for example social media or other publications).
If this is the case, it probably has its proper place rather at that location, and not in our magazine.
The more obscure and out-there your thing is, the better!

2. We don't like Nazis or right-wing people, so if you want to submit stuff like that, then do not submit it.

3. There might be other reasons too, of course.

That being said, send all stuff to:

tapeductseven@gmail.com

Topic should include "The Hardcore Overdogs"
You can also send general feedback or questions to that address.

And now... we are eagerly awaiting your material!
