birthday 23

Memory Flashback

This was the flyer for my 23th birthday party.
I thought it would be nice to throw a special event for that occasion.
The "rave" was held in a basement under a post office building, which also had an adjacent nuclear shelter.
At first we thought about hosting the party *inside* the nuclear bunker, but its "rooms" were quite small and tiny, so we dropped the idea.
The basement looked apocalyptic enough anyway.
DJs that night were Rod Bolts, Sampler19, me, and a few others. Jean Bach, and some local DJs attended too, but didn't do any performance, just chilling.

As you can see, there was a variety of styles, including punk rock and video game music, because we were bored with the hardcore / techno "style conformity" of those days.

Everything was great fun and sweet. Rod Bolts dropped "Purple Moon" at midnight, which was the point of my actual birthday.
Eventually, some trouble-makers turned up and things became sour. They started to d*al d*pe, got drunk, minor fights broke out.
Things began to slide out of control, and I gathered my friends for advice. We decided it's better to stop the party before things got really bad.

So we turned off the sound, turned on the lights, and I announced that the party is over. There was mourning and complaints, but eventually, they decided to leave, too.

All of us packed our things and headed for the exit.
While we were still on the stairs, I suddenly noticed that, even though we were mere meters apart, the group of troublemakers, in its entirety, was walking in front of me, while all my friends walked behind me.
So I put on my usual poker face, struck up a conversation with my friend, and when we got to the door, instead of walking through, I closed it in a casual and slow motion way, while also trying to signal to my friends they should stop. And once the door was closed, I locked and bolted it immediately.

The troublemakers quickly realized what was going on, there was shouting and angry screaming, and they tried to kick the door in with all force, but it was steel and a security door, so they couldn't do it. I think they made a ruckus for around 30 minutes before they finally gave up and left.

Either way, we went downstairs and the party got on its way again.
And it was more fun and joy than before, thus the party continued for a few hours more.

Lesson learned: Sometimes you just need to kick the bad things out of your life, and then make sure to lock the door properly so they can't creep in again.
