HCBXCast

Last night's show was wild!
I did a "live@home" Speedcore set, and it went down well.
In fact, I got two marriage proposals during the show, which was a first for me.
In case you want to relive and rewind, here is the link:

Strike Back

Strike Back invited me to do a podcast for their series.
The focus is on the "good ol' 90s", but not the mainstream stuff, underground releases like Fischkopf or Surgeon 16.
The kind of stuff one might have expected to hear when walking into a squat basement rave of that era.

And... there is a slight bend towards Hardcore connected to Hamburg, either by artist (Taciturne...) or label (Mouse, No Name).

Bon Appetit!

Method to my Madness

The week starts with a bang, as we are very happy to present to you the premiere music release by none other than Undercurrent (aka Li-Z)

She has been around in the Hardcore circuit for many years, is one of the best DJs (both technical, and in track selections), and has quite the accolades to show.

So how did Li-Z, whose job as a DJ is to spin tracks by other people to other people, happen to have a release out, with her own productions?

Well, she explains it better in her own words:

"A very experimental, one-off release that doesn’t quite fit into any genre. There are influences from Industrial, Hip-Hop, and IDM, but the result doesn’t quite fit into any of them.

These tracks were made around 10 years ago, at a time when I was still exploring music production but already realizing it wasn’t for me. I never really considered myself a producer, and after this I stopped making music altogether. Still, there’s something about these strange tunes, I think it's the 'no rules' and 'in-between-genres' energy that I like and that made me want to share them now. Maybe someone out there will connect with them in their own way."

Word!

Tracklisting:

Undercurrent (aka Li-Z) - Method to my Madness (Omnicore Records 64)

Tribute Mix to Dance Ecstasy 2001 Part 2 - The Endless Summer Mix

Quite a while ago I did a tribute to Dance Ecstasy Records - Part 1.
And now, a long time later, I finally got around to do - Part 2.
The subtitle is "The Endless Summer Mix". Because, even if that might feel like sacrilege to some Die-Hard PCP Doomcore fans - the releases on DE 2001, most of the time, represented the rave, party, dance, enjoy-life-to-your-fullest side of PCP. Fitting to the end-of-summer days we are in.

And, lastly, it *is* actually an endless mix! I don't know how many DJs did pull this of before. The mix does not end. You can listen to it for days. It is a loop. Just set your player to "repeat". Because the end is already the start of the mix again (huh?... no really, just try it!)

So enjoy these dog days, check the mix, respect to Acardipane and DE 2001. And here's the tracklisting:

Tracklisting:
1. Masters of Rave - Pump It
2. The Great Bellinis - The World is Yours
3. Ace The Space - 9 is a Classic (Remix)
4. Lunatic Asylum - People Want Paradise
5. Rave Creator - A new Mind (Rave Remix)
6. Nasty Django - Let it roar
7. Planet Phuture - Suburban Survival
8. Nasty Django - Cmon
9. SexDrive Entertainment - Untitled
10. Headshop - Paranoid
11. Inferno Bros - Slave to the Rave (Remix)
12. Reign - Light & Dark
13. DJ Jamo & Jack Knives - Seastar II
14. Negative Burn - Gates of Heaven
15. Renegade Legion - Dark Forces
16. Stereo Murder - Don't touch
17. Masters of Rave - Pump It (Remix)

Terror Tribe

Out now on Speedcore Worldwide!

Terror Tribe - The Ascent

For the occasion of this compilation, I decided to do an Extratone track again - which is a rare thing for me. And it combines "traditional" Hardcore and Doomcore elements with Extratone.

The Tortured Shadows Department

Low Entropy - The Tortured Shadows Department - LOTR Mix or Live 08

Yours truly was invited by Les Ombres Torturées Records to stitch together a live mix for their podcast.
And, going by the name of the label, I present to you The Tortured Shadows Department.
It's less a mix, more an audio narrative, telling a complete and dark story... and each track is a chapter in this imaginary book.
(check the track names to learn more)

Plenty of howling, laments, wailing, agony, and teeth-gnashing, transformed into synths, drums, and noise.
From Dark Ambient and Drone to Doomcore and Speedore.
Until the shadows get set free again...

II Sternenklang 2
III Doomicide

Drum Sample Pack

121 Royalty Free 909 Related Drum Samples (for Producing Techno, Hardcore, and More)

Here's a brand new serving of kicking hardcore and techno drum samples.
They are free to use, you don't have to pay royalties, you don't have to credit me (see below).
All of these are related to the 909 (the drum machine that made the 90s roar). But are tweaked, distorted, run through fx... so these are not your standard gabber and techno kicks for sure.

There is a huge variety of samples: bass heavy ones, more light weight drums, weird ones, and hyper-distorted sounds.
(The focus is on the heavy ones, of course.)

Because of this, I'd say they are suitable for all electronic genres... hardcore, techno, industrial, indietronics, speedcore... you name it!

I've been a hardcore and techno producer for nearly 30 years now and i did countless releases on countless labels. For this sample pack, I isolated the drum-stems of some of these tracks, and cut them into short samples
So it's really drums that have been played loud and approved at club or squat party sound systems (and their crowds).

License: Feel free to use the bassdrums for any public, private, intimate, or commercial purpose.
Would be *very* cool if you credit me, but it's not strictly necessary.

Note: in some cases, you might need to cut off the "clicking" sound at the end of the sample in an audio editor.

Horrortrax Re-Launch

Good news: Rotjecore re-launched their Horrortrax label!
And the first release is already out, a compilation with yours truly on it as well.

5 art projects that might have killed me

Monday, August 11, 2025

?Y

We were quite surprised when ?Y told us about their project. An album solely dedicated to witchcraft, to magic, to spirituality.

Or in their own worlds (or words) "we channeled this music, sent to us by messengers, through portals, from the world above, the world below, and even stranger dimensions.

As usual, we are not quite sure about the identity of these messengers and the ultimate source of inspiration. Or who is knocking, who's coming through, or what. But maybe that's not so important... we have the best intention and hope it will lead to a magic affair that is entirely benevolent.

This one's for all you Doomcore Witches out there, Acid Alchemists, Gabber Sorcerers, and Techno Shamans. Because we know that, in these times, you need all the support that you can get. We love you all."

What a nice message!
And we think that, no matter if you are a non-believer or believer, you might enjoy these creations.

Tracklist:

1. Meta Morph - Chosen Fate 06:53
2. Αναρχία Αραχνοειδείς - Funeral Hardcore 07:08
3. 1 Million Slowcore Members - Witches (New Ritual) 06:00
4. Archipel Ego - Through The Darkness Of Future Past 06:40
5. The Magician - The Last Moon Is Cast Over The Last Star Of Morning 05:05
6. MetaLove - Metamorphose 1 08:13
7. Pluto Transit - Scorpio 1 02:35
8. Pluto Transit - Scorpio 2 04:07
9. per luxuria ad astra - Callisto Disco (Part 1) 04:58
10. The Haunted League - Drone from Ganymede 04:53

birthday 23

Memory Flashback

This was the flyer for my 23th birthday party.
I thought it would be nice to throw a special event for that occasion.
The "rave" was held in a basement under a post office building, which also had an adjacent nuclear shelter.
At first we thought about hosting the party *inside* the nuclear bunker, but its "rooms" were quite small and tiny, so we dropped the idea.
The basement looked apocalyptic enough anyway.
DJs that night were Rod Bolts, Sampler19, me, and a few others. Jean Bach, and some local DJs attended too, but didn't do any performance, just chilling.

As you can see, there was a variety of styles, including punk rock and video game music, because we were bored with the hardcore / techno "style conformity" of those days.

Everything was great fun and sweet. Rod Bolts dropped "Purple Moon" at midnight, which was the point of my actual birthday.
Eventually, some trouble-makers turned up and things became sour. They started to d*al d*pe, got drunk, minor fights broke out.
Things began to slide out of control, and I gathered my friends for advice. We decided it's better to stop the party before things got really bad.

So we turned off the sound, turned on the lights, and I announced that the party is over. There was mourning and complaints, but eventually, they decided to leave, too.

All of us packed our things and headed for the exit.
While we were still on the stairs, I suddenly noticed that, even though we were mere meters apart, the group of troublemakers, in its entirety, was walking in front of me, while all my friends walked behind me.
So I put on my usual poker face, struck up a conversation with my friend, and when we got to the door, instead of walking through, I closed it in a casual and slow motion way, while also trying to signal to my friends they should stop. And once the door was closed, I locked and bolted it immediately.

The troublemakers quickly realized what was going on, there was shouting and angry screaming, and they tried to kick the door in with all force, but it was steel and a security door, so they couldn't do it. I think they made a ruckus for around 30 minutes before they finally gave up and left.

Either way, we went downstairs and the party got on its way again.
And it was more fun and joy than before, thus the party continued for a few hours more.

Lesson learned: Sometimes you just need to kick the bad things out of your life, and then make sure to lock the door properly so they can't creep in again.
