123 Hardcore Techno and Gabber drums that were used in the 90s (Sample Pack 3)

Hey,
This is a new sample pack of mine.
And this time it's a special treat. It's not synthetic, rendered drums from the present day that merely aim to "mimic" a retro sound.
No no no!
It's drums that were actually used in the 90s on genuine vinyl releases and elsewhere.
Sounds that I created and used in various DAWs, trackers, Ms-Dos, Windows 3.11, Windows 95...
That, for example, were used in tracks that found their way to releases on labels like Blut, Black Monolith, Praxis...
That I played during gigs at Tresor in Berlin, at Nordcore, at the ****parade in Berlin (remember Technoviking?) and many other places.

So it does not get more authentic!
The true blue sound of the Hardcore and Techno 90s.

This pack includes a large variety of different drums, percussion and other noises.
Not just Gabber drums - but also those that could be used for Techno, Doomcore, Speedcore, Breakcore tracks, and everything else.
My last drum pack was very 909-centric, and this is close to the total opposite. Very few generic 909 sounds are on here.
So this might be a suitable drum pack if you're looking for drum diversity.

Note: but if you want to sound like a commercial mainstream Gabber act, this pack might not be the right thing for you.
This is really more the noisy, surreal, "underground" variety of 1990s Techno.

License:

Feel free to use the bassdrums for any public, private, intimate, or commercial purpose.
Would be cool if you credit me, but it's not necessary.

Low Tempo Aggression

Slowcore Techno has many faces... tracks that are similar to measured Doomcore Tracks... Industrial Hardcore slowed down... cinematic pieces enforced by reduced bpm beats.... and low tempo analogue and acid techno sounds...

Yet we feel Slowcore has even more potential... that has not been adequately utilized that...

the slow beats and reverberation, and the low progression and build up in sounds in general, give room for more bass, distortion... more violence... plenty of violence....

We had ultra distorted speedcore a few decades ago... yet these short cuts sounds might not have the same possibilities of aggression as slowcore techno has...

so this is an experiment.... going slow... and aggro... and oh so angry.

all levels set to twelve here... as the bassdrums pound on... 120 bpm... 40 bpm... even 1 bpm.

Distortion, screams, fire... and in between... an angelic choir... and an alien whispering in your ears...

Can you dig this low tempo aggression?

Found this randomly on a youtube recommendation.

Yes yes, that's the secret of great rhythms :-)

ACAB. But also: **** the government, stick it to the authorities, rebel for life.

Use that wisely and excessively.

But not just for rhythms, also for melodies, sequences, structures... and your life!

Dispose

Slowcore Records is proud to present the premier release by DazEdge from China.
This release crosses the line in many regards. There are lush, bittersweet, haunting synths and pads that almost feel close to industrial, gothic, dark ambient.
But at the same time there are thundering, pushing, adrenaline rushing drums, sounds, rhythms, that will send you off to a doomed rave.
Two tracks to behold - so check 'em out right now!

Really into this space stuff

Mah new music video just dropped.

And like most videos, it is open to various valid interpretations.
But here is how I see what is happening.
An astronaut is on a mission, somewhere far away in deep space.
We do not know the exact details or purpose of the mission.
But we know that something went wrong, and there is a major malfunction on the spaceship.
Our astronaut now feels drawn to, has visions of, or actually exists in - different places, planets, galactic civilzations. Even their identity and bodily appearance / existence no longer seems to be fixed, or certain.
And a fracture in time apparently has taken place as well, as we see the astronaut trying to fight the malfunction event again and again, as if trapped in a temporal loop.

How will it end? Will our astronaut ever return to earth? Or be stuck in this "heisenberg loop" forever? Or cross-over and live on as an alien in one of the galactic cities they are seeing in their visions?

We don't know. We can't know.

Doombient

Right in time for November's supermoon:
Dave Doom with a music video to their track "The First Moon".
Reminiscent of a walk through a forest during a doomed night in late Hamburg Autumn, this video easily accompanies the mood to this cold and freezing track.
"Doombient" is a style in music that utilizes the synths, sounds, and sensations of Doomcore Techno - but without the drums and percussion!
Doomed Ambient through and through - and that's what you gonna get!

Youtube Gold

LOL this is youtube gold... youtube's AI guided attribution / political information / lyrics transcript sytem obviously operating at full power here :-)

Krautrock still lives!

Omnicore Records is the label for *all* styles of music...
And what we got here is a release that is a reminiscence of the long-forgotten days of krautrock... the "berlin school", purely electronic variety of krautrock, to be exact. No drums, percussion, singing - just synthesizers, FX, modulation, mutation, metamorphosis of sounds, waves, and thoughts.
A tribute to the era of "kosmische musik", running along themes of other worlds, parallel dimensions, ruins of galactic civilizations, far away star system that give host to the strangest of aliens...
this ain't cosmic horror... this is unfiltered cosmic longing.

so, if you are a sci-fi buff or krautrock aficionado, we think this is the right release for you!
and, in order to pay respect to the classic "krautrock double vinyl album" format, there is only 4 tracks on here, each with a runtime of over 10 minutes.

Introducing a new genre in (electronic) music: The Slowcore Techno Movie

In the last years (or decades?) it felt as if no new groundbreaking innovation in (electronic) music was possible anymore; as if everything "had been done before".
But now there is a wholly new genre on the block: Slowcore Techno.
Usually defined as Hardcore, Doomcore, Techno, Acid etc. music that is slower than 130 bpm.
And as much research as we did, it seems there really was no movement or genre that fit these criteria, until recently. There were maybe a handful of tracks (from 1990 until now!), but beyond this - nothing; the pure void.

It is astonishing (and unexplainable and irrational really) that techno and hardcore producers thoroughly explored the world of 130-230 bpm (and even much faster ventures - with genres like ultra-speedcore) but left the realm below this tempo almost completely unexplored.

And Slowcore Techno can get *really* slow - 60 bpm tracks are not unheard of, and some have a meager tempo of 30, 15, or even 1 bpm.

So, in terms of sheer tempo, Slowcore is the opposite of styles like Gabber or Speedcore.

The scene originally was mostly centered around the internet label Slowcore Records (and yeah, we admit that we have personal ties to this label) but eventually many other artists and labels started to pick up this sound and make it their own - and slowcore tracks can even be found on vinyl and other physical releases nowadays.

While this movement has its dedicated producers and fanfolk, it mostly stays invisible and underground, like other "obscure" genres such as lofi black metal or some strains of synthwave music.

But what better way to introduce this label than by its own special movie?

This is essentially a showcase of slowcore music with some intricate videos enhancing the audio/video experience.
The whole thing sees itself in the tradition of similar 90s rave/techno audio-visual conglomerations, or even 80s experiments like the "state of the art" (later continued as the more well known "the mind's eye") VHS tapes.
So don't expect too much narration or rational coherence - because "this was designed to open your mind" (sorry, oldschool hardcore quote ;-)

As a bonus, there are even some faster tracks at the end.

But now, enjoy this wholly new Slowcore Experience!

The movie will premiere on 11:11 at 11:11.

Note: some of these visuals are AI generated.

(Note: Slowcore Techno is not really related to the rock genre of the same name).

Note: as a second bonus, the AI short "legend of the zombie rave" is included, too.

Note: the movie is at parts slightly/mildly nsfw.

Gabber At Half Speed

Do you like Hardcore Techno and Gabber House? It's nice, but it's a bit fast, isn't it? Quite hard to dance to. Unless you want to bang your fists and swing your head around the whole time.
And indeed, if you look at Hardcore History... it started somewhere at 130, 140 bpm... early 90s... and then just went faster and faster. 160 bpm was not uncommon, suddenly 180 bpm was the place to be, and by the mid 90s, everything went faster and faster, 200 bpm, 210 bpm, and even a lot more!

So the idea behind this release is:
Let us undo the history of hardcore and do the reverse!
Not go "faster and faster", but to slow down, getting slower, and slower, and slower......
Yeah we had some Slowcore sounds in the past. I mean, we are Slowcore Records, after all.
But so far this was more or less low tempo Doomcore, Industrial Hardcore, EBM, Dark Ambient...
Not really Gabber House, right?
Now in this case, these are true blue Oldstyle Gabber tracks. with hoovers, choir-hits, rave sounds, bleeps, clonks... gabber grooves... dancefloor smashers.
But at a much slower pace. Half tempo Gabber. Or even more extreme.

It's Hardcore Techno at "slowed+reverb", basically.
And we hope you enjoy it very much!

Tracklisting:

1 Million Slowcore Members - Gabber At Half Speed (Slowcore Records 51)

1. Thy Will Be Done (Low Tempo Version) (88-120 BPM)
2. Slowcore Revolution (60 BPM)
3. Ponderous to Some (50 BPM)
4. Your Prolonged Suffering (45 BPM)
5. Raise Your Hands Steadily (16 BPM)
6. Slowcore Lacrima (Bonus Cut) (63 BPM)

The (unofficial) Guidebook to PCP aka Planet Core Productions - The Label's Artists, Music, and Releases

Hi there!
Do you know PCP? Planet Core Productions? The label that invented Hardcore Techno and brought us classics like "I Like It Loud" ("Maria"), "We Have Arrived", "Waves Of Life", "Don't Touch That Stereo", and countless others?
The label occupies a unique, liminal space in music history, when Techno and other genres like Hardcore, Gabber, Breakbeat, Trance, Ambient, were not so divided and far apart yet - so PCP became a player in all these conflicting territories!

PCP and the people involved were on the verge of disappearing into the shadows of media exposure after the Millennium (except for the "Hardcore Heads", who always loved this unruly bunch).
But recently, there has been growing interest in the sound of PCP again, especially amongst the members of the Techno crowd, who seem to have become a bit tired with minimalist and "armchair" sounds and are ready to embrace some harder stuff again.
Yet, there is also a downside to this, as the focus is once again on the "hard and techno" stuff, which indeed formed the core of the label's activities - but it is often forgotten that they did a lot of brilliant and important releases in other fields as well - ranging from Industrial, Electro, and EBM to Hard Acid, Jungle, Speedcore - and even Happy Hardcore, House, and Eurodance!

Let's face it: name one (sub-)genre of electronic music in the 90s, and it is certain that PCP has done at least one release in that style.

I'm a PCP-head since the label's heyday in the mid 90s, but I also became a collector and researcher of the label and everything involved - in four decades!
And over time, I connected with more and more people who got entranced by the label too, and are on a similar quest for exploration.

I wrote an unofficial e-book about the label. It's actually a book in two parts - the first part tries to give an overview about the label, a kind of "chronography", and talks about related issues such as its unique artworks, its sound aesthetics, it's ties to the Doomcore Techno genre, and much more!

And for the second part... I listed, described, and reviewed all of its over 200 (two hundred) releases on all its labels and subs!

It actually took me 10 years to write the "complete" book. And the research for it.... took me another 20 years. so in total i worked 30 years on it. but i guess it was worth it.

It's dedicated to all the other "seekers" and pcp-heads who can't get enough of these ecstatic sounds, and are looking for more information, suggestions, facts, and myths...
and everyone else, who might be interested in listening to something else than the-oh-so boring "techno mainstream".

may it be useful!

So here is the link:

the first part can also be downloaded as an e-book on archive.org

and i'm working on getting the second part up in a different format soon.

I'm happy to get any comment, feedback... and maybe further clues / hints to the mysteries of PCP... so send it my way! :-)

Over and out,
L.E.

In the past years I did a lot of tracks that ended up on a various compilations... this is a re-release of some of these tracks, combined in one release. Styles range from Slowcore and Acid to Gabber and Speedcore.
But it's mostly on the "fast and dark" side.
Including an unreleased Bonus Track.

System Lock

System Lock's debut release on Doomcore Records.

6 tracks that are located at the faster edge of the Doom/Industrial/Hardcore spectrum.
Monstrous, intense bassdrums. Stygian, haunted tempers.
Brutish synths, percussion, voices.

We feel these tracks would work well on the "harder" Techno dancefloor, too.
So check it out now!

The Bite of the Spider

Music Video to the track "Αναρχία Αραχνοειδείς - The Bite of the Spider - Chapter 5".
Released on Slowcore Records: https://doomcorerecords.bandcamp.com/album/all-the-beautiful-ones-dance-in-the-shadows

New Mix-Set Ambient to Gabber

One of the defining aspects of Hardcore is that it crosses over into both "Light" and "Dark" territories; unlike genres such as e.g. Black Metal that is rarely cheerful, or Eurodance, which is rarely dark and disturbing (maybe by its innate cheesiness!).
Because of this, we did a serious of features on this positive / negative entanglement.
This mix is another attempt to illustrate it.

It starts with calm, soothing, tranquil ambient sounds; builds up into elated trance, rave, and acid sounds; then walks towards gabber euphoria.
Then, uh oh, things start to turn around.
Disturbing Doomcore and Darkcore sounds make their entry. And we slowly crawl towards infernal noise Terror.
But, as an old proverb said: "even this shall pass".
Another transfiguration happens, and we ascend from this void, into sweet electro sounds. And, finally, the music arrives at ambience tranquility again.
We have come full circle.

Thus it's a conceptual set, spanning a mixed bag of genres.
Connected to its philosophical theme; that, in life too, tenebrous and bright things, feelings, events, are all part of a one-sided coin; and, as you traverse your own life, you might find yourself drifting to one extremity and then to the other; but in each case, you will always return to the core.

The Hardcore Overdogs Compilation 2

This is another release employing our "Slowcore2Speedcore concept"; starting low, slow, and heavy, then getting into industrial and doomcore sounds, finally venturing into speedy and terror-core areas, experimental, and noise (while still being heavy).

Combining all the possible sounds of Doomcore Records, Slowcore Records and Omnicore Records united.
But not only the styles are "all over the map", the artists are as well, heralding from Belgium, Germany, England, Ukraine, other places, and even outer space!
So if you are in for a release that is "a bit different" from the Techno and Gabber mainstream, why not pay a visit to these soundscapes, too?

This compilation is released in support of The Hardcore Overdogs "E-Zine for great and / or underrated Hardcore Techno past and present!"

New Patreon

When I started doing music, my idea was to put as much money into it as I would get out of it - to arrive at a kind of "zero sum" activity. But, of course, in 27 years of producing, gigging, running labels, writing books, and other things, I spend a lot more money on these things than I gained by them - so this "zero sum" idea fell flat very quickly.

The consequence was that I had to "keep my budget" as tight as possible - to use freeware software for music production, to use websites that allow a "free" subscription / plan, i.e. to avoid any type of gear, app, service, activity that would cost money.

I got by this way; I got by very well. But to be honest, this was only possible because people intervened a lot and said "hey, I like your art, and want to gift you this!". Not necessarily money in every case, though.

But nowadays, free software and free internet sites become rarer and rarer; and as I delve into *bigger* projects, I often hit walls and corners where I realize; there are things which would need *money* in order to get ahead.
This could be as "simple" as having to spend money to get a good video editing software. Or an app for digital image work.
Or, of course, better sound gear and programs.

Thus, if you like what I do, and what I did so far, maybe you are interested in supporting me financially. I promise I will put all money gained this way into future projects. And maybe I can finally get some "bigger" projects off the ground this way.

90s Hardcore Gabber and Speedcore Revival

https://doomcorerecords.bandcamp.com/album/90s-hardcore-gabber-and-speedcore-revival-the-next-chapter

It started a few years ago: a growing interest in the hardcore, gabber, rough electronic sounds of the 1990s.While the focus was at first towards the more dance-y, mainstream aspects of this scene, the explorers of this realm are excavating more and more stuff by now; we not only see a revival of early hardcore and gabber, but also of the underground, speedcore, acidcore, "terror" material.

this thing is getting huge man, and recently gabber beats began to blast into mainstream media and the public eye, with movie directors, famous pop stars, and everyone else really, starting to adopt these sounds.

is this development good or bad? you be the judge. but it's been a wild wild ride my friend, and we definitely desire to jump in, to surf on this train, and look where it leads us - into salvation, darkness, or both?

this is a 8 part release. the centerpiece is a megamix of (new!) hardcore revival tracks in the 1990s style (with some modern twists and production, too).
it starts slow at 180 bpm, begins to climb steadily, 200 bpm, 240 bpm, 260 bpm, and then lifts of into oblivion.
and there are also 7 pieces from this mix as stand-alone tracks - maybe useful for DJs or listeners at home.
Either way: enjoy and bon voyage!

Music and philosophy

Hiya,
As you know, my music is heavily inspired by topics from philosophy, politics, culture, history...
I try to put a lot of that into my tracks.
But I also write it down into text articles.
For over a decade, I've been putting most of these up on my website called "Thoughts On Some Things".
If you are interested in similar subjects, you might consider to check it out..
And if you're interested in my music, you can read more about the ideas that inform my production.
